Artist's Comments

Hoo-boy, what to say about this thing. Umm. Ok.

Well, this was planned as a big one. Like, a good one. I wanted to have it ready to submit to the Art Show for Manifest this year (August 14/15). Of course, with so much to do before hand (three costumes, Anime Idol preparation, Volunteering preparation, Reporter duties preparation, crudload of uni work) I didn't even get it drawn up until very late. I would've liked to fix up some of the errors in sketchwork, but had to move right on to the painting, which is where most of the problems are. I really wanted to take my time to do this properly, and thus considered just waiting to do it after Manifest. You always regret it when you rush, right? But I realised if I didn't do it then, I'd never get around to finishing it. So it's better to have a poorly done painting than none at all. Anyway, it's too colourful; I really needed to work out a colour scheme properly.

Characterwise, I actually designed all the characters before hand. Meaning I actually have my very own original characters now. Wow. I feel special. I'll upload some of the character designs to scraps later. I tried to take inspiration from the original Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass, as well as incorporating style from other sources. I'll go into more detail about the individuals when I upload the sketches.

From top left:
The Queen of Hearts (she was a nightmare. I hate her)
The Cheshire Cat
Alice with the Black Kitten (whose fault it all was)
The White Rabbit
The Mad Hatter
The March Hare
The Doormouse

I wasn't around in the art show much, but apparently it got some positive feedback. I met one girl who loved Hatter ('omg! He's so bishy!') We had a brief discussion on my view that I had not intended to make him bishy, and was actually horrified when I first came up with his design (I believe my words at the time were 'Holy crap, what have I done? I think I've created... a BISHOUNEN X_x' ). Everyone seemed to be able to tell that it was an Alice-inspired piece though, which was my main concern.

All up, sorry for the lack of updates while I handled this monstrousity x_X;; I'm free to doodle again now. Try to focus on the character designs and not how ghey it looks all up.

Hi! I've been banned, because deviantART sucks. You can still find my artwork up on [link] (there's nothing there yet, but that's where it'll go). Bite me, dA. XP

It is a little cluttery. Yes I think you would have done better to take your time, but if that meant not seeing this lovely creation then I'm glad you rushed! Great stuff.

With great power comes the great probability that when you screw up it will be an Epic Fail.

Ahhh, the Magical A-chan returns at last. ....I've missed you. :( Those characters are fantastic...is it just me, or does the Mad Hatter slightly resemble a certain handsome gothic friend of Lizu? Heehee. The colour scheme is not so bad, except maybe for the red hair and purple shorts on the Cheshire cat...otherwise, I LOVE the way you made him camouflage in the tree, nice stuff. And the white rabbit as absolutely adorable. Anyway, you'll pull another hundred or so DevStalkers with this one. ;) Heehee.
Doubtless as we speak you are preparing a great rant about Manifest (unless you are like me, and have left ranting for so long that there is now so much to rant about the very thought of ranting sets your head spinning for oblivion) so I won't ask you how it went. Reminds me I need to talk to Liz and ask her if she ever ran into that Jack Sparrow lookalike again. *evil smirk*
Anyway. Great to see your work again, I've missed your style. Take a few weeks to enjoy the sunshine--*A-chan: sunshine? what sunshine? where the hell does she think I live?*--you've earned it.

The world is divided into two groups: people who love to play with swords, and two half-groups of people sliced in half by the sword-loving people.

A-chan comes back with a bang! Your take on these characters are quite nifty. I've always thought it must be kind of a pain trying to make fresh designs for characters that have been done time and time again, so I respect the effort you put behind this. I also repect your ability to fit seven figures (and Dinah) on one page! Holy mother. If I can get more than two, it's a miracle.
